Send a large video on WhatsApp without losing quality

WhatsApp compresses videos you send as media and limits them to 16 MB. You can send up to 2 GB as a document, but then the other person has to download the whole file before they can watch it. Send a vewo link instead: they tap it and the video starts playing in their browser.

How to send it from your phone

  1. Open vewo.io in your phone's browser and tap to choose the video from your gallery.
  2. When the upload finishes, tap copy.
  3. Paste the link into the WhatsApp chat. Tapping it plays the video in the browser.

How big a video can you send?

Guest links stop working after 7 days. Make a free account and your videos are kept for 30 days and can be up to 5 GB.

Quality stays as close to your original as your plan allows: up to 720p as a guest, 1080p with a free account, and 4K on Pro. The link streams, so it plays smoothly even on a slow connection.

Other ways, and their catch

  • Send it as a document. Up to 2 GB with no compression, but the whole file has to download before it plays, which uses the other person's data and storage.
  • Send it as a video. Quick, but WhatsApp compresses it, so it looks noticeably worse.
  • Share a Google Drive link. Works, but it opens Drive rather than a player.
  • Send a vewo link. Plays straight away, nothing to download.
