Video too big for Discord? Send a link instead
Discord lets free accounts upload files up to 20 MB, 50 MB with Nitro Basic and 1 GB with Nitro. For anything bigger, upload the video to vewo and paste the link into Discord. It shows a preview and plays right in the chat. Nobody needs an account to watch, and there is no watermark.
Discord's upload limits
| Account | Largest file |
|---|---|
| Free | 20 MB |
| Nitro Basic | 50 MB |
| Nitro | 1 GB |
Limits checked October 2026.
Discord raised the free limit from 10 MB to 20 MB in August 2026, and now checks the size before compressing, so phone videos, especially on Android, still hit the limit often. A minute of phone video is usually far bigger than 20 MB.
How to send it with vewo
- Open vewo.io and drop your video on the page, or tap to pick it from your phone. No account needed.
- When the upload finishes, copy the link.
- Paste it into any Discord channel or DM. It previews and plays inline.
How big a video can you send?
| Max upload | Quality | Link lasts | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Guest | 1 GB | 720p | 7 days |
| Free account | 5 GB | 1080p | 30 days |
| Pro | 50 GB | 4K | a year |
Guest links stop working after 7 days. Make a free account and your videos are kept for 30 days and can be up to 5 GB.
Other ways, and their catch
- Compress it until it fits. A tool like HandBrake can squeeze a clip under 20 MB, but a long or HD video has to lose a lot of quality to get there.
- Pay for Nitro. Up to 1 GB, but it costs a monthly fee and only works for the sender who pays.
- Share a Google Drive or Dropbox link. It does not play in the chat; people click out, and may have to download it.
- Send a vewo link. No need to shrink it to fit, it plays in the chat, and it is free.
