How to report material on vewo that infringes your copyright, what we do about it, and how to respond if your video was removed by mistake.
Overview
vewo hosts video uploaded by its users. Uploads are not reviewed before they are published, and we do not claim ownership of anything uploaded to the service. If you believe material on vewo infringes your copyright, tell us and we will act on it.
Uploading material you do not have the rights to share is a breach of our Terms & Conditions.
Reporting infringing material
The fastest route is the Report control on the page of the video itself, which reaches us immediately and includes the video reference automatically. Choose Copyright infringement as the reason.
You can also email support@vewo.io. So that we can act without coming back to you for more information, please include:
- Identification of the copyrighted work you say has been infringed — a title, a registration number, or a link to where it is legitimately published.
- The full vewo link or links you are complaining about, in the form
vewo.io/v/…, so the material can be located. - Your name, postal address, telephone number and email address.
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or are authorised to act on the owner's behalf.
- Your signature. A typed name in an email is sufficient.
Please send one notice covering all the links you are reporting rather than a separate message for each.
What happens next
We aim to review copyright complaints within two business days. Where a complaint is valid we remove the video, and removal is immediate and complete: the file is deleted from storage and purged from our content delivery network, so the link stops working everywhere rather than only for new viewers.
Where we can identify the person who uploaded the material, we tell them what was removed and why. Many uploads to vewo are made without an account, and in those cases there is no address to notify — the material is still removed.
If you think we removed your video by mistake
If your video was removed and you believe it was not infringing — for example because you hold the rights, have a licence, or the use is permitted by law — email support@vewo.io and include:
- The link that was removed.
- Your name, postal address, telephone number and email address.
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed as the result of a mistake or a misidentification.
- Your signature.
We will pass your response to the person who complained. If the complaint is withdrawn, or is not pursued, we may restore the video. Bear in mind that a removed video may already have passed its normal expiry date, in which case the file no longer exists and cannot be restored.
Repeat infringers
We keep a record of upheld copyright complaints against each account. Accounts that attract repeated upheld complaints are terminated, their videos removed, and further uploads refused. We also act on a single complaint where the infringement is clear and deliberate — for example uploading a commercial film or a live sports broadcast.
False and abusive complaints
Asking for material to be removed when you have no right to it causes real harm to the person who uploaded it, and in many jurisdictions carries legal consequences for the person making the claim. Please only report material you genuinely own or are authorised to act for. We may decline to act on complaints that are incomplete, evidently automated, or repeatedly unfounded.
Trademark and other complaints
Use the same address for trademark complaints, impersonation, privacy complaints about material featuring you, and anything else unlawful. For content that is abusive rather than infringing — sexual content, violence, harassment or spam — the Report control on the video page is the quickest route and lets you pick the right category.
